Grade 4: Ornaments
In music, ornaments (embellishments) are used to decorate a melody. The amount of ornamentation used can vary. In the Baroque period ornamentation was used extensively but in other periods some melodies used little or none.
In grade 4 you may be asked to name the following ornaments.
The acciaccatura, the appoggiatura, the upper or lower mordent, the turn & the trill:
In grade 4 you will need to recognise the following ornaments. All you need to do is name them, you will not be asked to write the ornamented notes in full.
